Why Extract?
You don’t have to. You can customize SAP, a lot. A big business was told “your SAP system is so customized, if it went down, it might not start back up. You should migrate to S4”. After migrating they went bankrupt. All custom reporting was left in the deprecated ECC system and they could not keep operations on track without it.
SAP is amazing, but complex. SAP put 90,000+ tables in ECC and more in S4. A simple thing like a sales order links to tons of tables for headers, details, descriptions, status, master data… Users like descriptions. And status descriptions, and sales office names, et cetera.
When you extract SAP data for reporting, you get all the details, fast. All exceptions including that weird user name who made that one time accounts payable transaction. We can show the time, date, full login, and user name for the entry.
SAP Texts
Sales orders have lots of free text fields. You could use one to describe a reason for a block. then feed that to your report. Ask your IT people about SAP text fields in reporting and how fast they could add them. We could add them to your reports in weeks. Why not use what you have? SAP is full of text fields.
